The perfect words in the perfect order… No matter where we find them, they stick in the mind like gum in the hair; stubborn and almost impossible to remove. Painting is my way to scissor them out but not with the intention of throwing them away. Instead, I like to pin them to images like a collector pins butterflies to a board, carefully examining them for my own pleasure. Poems, song lyrics, advice columns, great novels and bad, and the history of languages, the way they work, their little peculiarities, their relationships and infidelities, all these and more, are potential targets for my mind’s eye and painter’s hand. Watch out!
“She was fascinated with words. To her, words were things of beauty, each like a magical powder or potion that could be combined with other words to create powerful spells.” — Dean Koontz
