Homage to Spring

July 24, 2016 Honey Lea Gaydos

"Tarnished" 12 x 12 Pastel on board, copyright 2016 Honey Lea Gaydos

I like to change up the objects in my house every season. Three things I really love are what a friend calls "granny teacups", silver tableware, and bisque figures. In the spring I always put out my bisque bunny head. This year I got the idea of putting him ( I think of it as a "him") in a beautiful silver bowl surrounded by artichokes. Spring, bunnies, and artichokes just go together.

The silver sugar bowl with hanging spoons is one of my very favorite objects. I paint it a lot. It is a reissue of a Victorian sugar bowl, and it was one of the first Christmas gifts my sweet "bonus" daughters ever gave me.

The silver was tarnished. I thought I needed to polish it. But I loved the way the spring light from the north window played against the warmth of the tarnish. I knew that warm color would dissolve into a much cooler color if I polished the silver, so I let it be.
